In this episode, Jeanne Lieberman speaks with Christina Vassallo and Katie Parry of The Fabric Workshop and Museum.
Together, they explore how the museum unsettles a canon that reifies finished products and opens up the black box of artistic experimentation to Philadelphia publics in new ways. And they reflect on the ongoing work of transforming the forms of connection, collaboration, and conflict that emerge in museum workspaces.

EPISODE PARTICIPANTS
Jeanne Lieberman (she/her) is a graduate student in the department of anthropology at the University of Pennsylvania and an extremely amateur textile artist who constantly finds herself coming back to embroidery to work out existential questions related to identity and belonging. Before grad school she worked in arts education and arts administration, working to make arts education more accessible to public school students and teachers in Chicago and supporting students to research and document local artists from their communities. Christina Vassallo is the Executive Director of The Fabric Workshop and Museum. She comes to Philly from Cleveland, where she was led SPACES, an exhibition, residency and gathering space for artists. Before moving to Cleveland, she got her start in visual arts leadership at the Queens-based artist collective, Flux Factory. Katie Parry has a MFA from Tyler School of Art and a BA in Studio Art from Kenyon College. She is an artist, mother, and educator living in Philadelphia. She currently works as the Museum Tour Manager at The Fabric Workshop and Museum where she imagines programs, collaborative workshops, and opportunities for exchange. |
